The ‘2021 Unmanned Mobile Vehicle Industry Expo’, where you can see new technologies such as drones and driving robots, will be held at COEX in Seoul from the 26th to the 28th.
The event is hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration.
Unmanned vehicles are vehicles capable of autonomous driving and remote control, and are divided into drones, personal flying vehicles (PAVs), driving robots, and unmanned ships. Advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, information, and communication technology (ICT), robots, and aviation are integrated and used in various fields such as mobility, defense, and delivery.
This year’s exhibition will be held under the themes of drones, PAVs, urban air mobility (UAM), and unmanned defense systems, and government agencies, military, and companies will set up a total of 361 booths to show major achievements in developing new technologies and nurturing human resources.
A miniature model of the Korean PAV, which is being developed with domestic technology, is displayed at the R&D PR hall of the Ministry of Industry. This model is expected to complete the development of a prototype in the second half of next year and make its first flight.
Hyundai Motor will exhibit a scaled-down model of the PAV concept for UAM. It is a five-seater aircraft, capable of flying up to 100 km using electric power and a total of eight propellers.
LIG Nex1 introduces the development status of large cargo (logistics) drones based on hydrogen fuel cells. The drone will be equipped with a hydrogen fuel cell converted from Hyundai Motor’s Nexo for aviation use.
The achievements of industry-university projects such as solar drones and harbor monitoring drones developed jointly by master’s and doctoral students and companies at the Ministry of Industry’s ‘Industrial Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Professional Training Project’ will be introduced.
The Ministry of Science and ICT will present research contents of autonomous cooperation system for land, sea, and air that is being developed through the unmanned vehicle source technology development project.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport will introduce domestic drone technology developed through support for drone regulation sandbox projects such as illegal drone detection, drone entertainment, and automatic flying drone system.
The Ministry of National Defense exhibits the unmanned systems that the land, sea, and air forces will use in future battlefields, and introduces the army’s drone bot combat system, the navy’s smart navy, and the air force’s unmanned and unmanned complex systems.
An unmanned vehicle conference will also be held. On the 27th, Hyundai Motor Company will announce the ‘UAM Business Promotion Strategy’ and Hanwha Systems will announce the ‘Global UAM Trend and Hanwha UAM Development Status’.
On the 28th, Oh Sang-jin, head of the Defense Reform Office of the Ministry of National Defense, will deliver a keynote speech on the topic of ‘Development Strategy for Unmanned Defense Systems’.
In the opening speech of the video, Minister of Trade, Industry, and Energy Moon Seung-wook said, “In the high-tech unmanned vehicle industry, securing creative and professional talent is important, so the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy is supporting a project to foster professional manpower at the masters and doctoral level. We will spare no effort to invest so that it can become the source of jobs that we provide,” he said.
