Really, Florida! This sounds unreal, but it did happen. A Florida man is in serious trouble because the police say he got into the BMW and drove it away fast, crashing it somewhere. Somewhere along the way, he told them he did not steal the car because he had somehow been teleported into it.
Calvin Curtis Johnson, aged 36. He was arrested on Monday, December 8, near Ormond Beach. Details went out, courtesy of the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, who also released bodycam footage that seemed to amplify the ludicrousness of it all.
The police say the BMW was parked at Bicentennial Park. The owner left it unlocked, with the keys sitting in the cup holder, while he took a short walk with his dog. In this brief period, his car vanished, which is already bad luck.
Johnson took the BMW for a ride, and just a few minutes later, he crashed the car into the highway close by. By the time officers arrived, Johnson appeared to have been injured and utterly terrified. You could clearly see the fear on his face in the bodycam video.

Then came the next strange thing. Johnson kept repeating that he had not stolen anything. At one point, he told police he did not know how he got into the BMW. He even mentioned being teleported there. When an officer told him it was a stolen BMW, he said he had no idea how he got there.
He kept talking incoherently. At one point, he told the officers that they saved him from aliens. This is one of those awkward moments you get watching a clip. I have seen a lot of police commentary online, but this one seemed different. The surrealness kicks in as one watches someone say these words with a serious expression after a crash.
After the crash, Johnson was taken to the hospital for treatment. After he was cleared, he was transferred to the Volusia County Branch Jail. Police charged him with grand theft auto and driving with a suspended license.
He is expected to make his first court appearance for arraignment over the weekend. The case is now in process, and the bodycam footage is available online.
I read a lot of crime news, but this crime is an eye-catcher. That teleportation claim sounds quite weird. It just shows how unsafe it is to leave keys in the car, even for just a few minutes. One awful mistake with enormous consequences may come back to haunt. You can watch the Body Cam Video over X by clicking HERE
